In earlier times, when science and technology has not advanced as in recent times, the people of those times used eco-friendly building construction materials for building a house. The use of mud, burnt bricks, granite stones and other materials available in the immediate vicinity of a house was widespread. The well to do class who could afford it did not hesitate to use wooden flooring.
With respect to wall construction again burnt bricks, mud or even granite stones were popular. But, the people with small and marginal incomes used bamboo, thick grass or even thatch to build walls. Even though such walls did not have the strength of a concrete wall, the life of people inside that house was easier because of the unique ambience that was created due to the use of such materials.
Again for roofing purposes, bamboo, thick grass or even thatch was used as roofing material. These materials had the ability to cool the living spaces below when the heat above was on the higher side. In modern times, when apartments and flats are getting popular, there are apartment developers who are trying to reinvent the use of bamboo, thick grass or even thatch for building the walls of apartments and flats. However, these materials are getting popular for furnishing hotels, restaurants and other places of tourist interest. For apartments for rent that are furnished with eco-friendly materials or those living spaces in which the eco-friendly materials have been widely used for walls, flooring etc the green enthusiasts do not mind paying high rentals to occupy that green spaces.
