Since I've spent many hours reviewing the Treasury Dept's monthly publications, I'm going to post some of the "findings." I'd encourage readers to review these monthly statements for themselves, since they help debunk much of the mainstream media's propaganda about where our money is going.
for December 2009

for October 2009

for August 2009:

for September 2008 (end of fiscal year 2008):

This year's budget deficit (and national debt increase) is already increased $1.38 Trillion (for the 1st 11 months of fiscal 2009). The estimated budget deficit (and national debt increase) for 1009 is $1.579 trillion.
The interest on the public debt this year is $431 billion, or almost 3% of our GDP.
Once again, Social Security will register a surplus for 2009--somewhere between +$132 billion and +$147 billion (depending on which numbers are used.)
TANF (Temporary Aid to Needy Families--former AFDC) costs the Federal Government only $16 billion/year.
The total Federal Outlays for non-medical Family Assitance programs (i.e, anything that would be labeled as "welfare") including TANF (but excluding Food Stamps), is $48 billion/year.
The Food Stamp program itself has already cost $50 billion for 2009, up from ~$36 billion in fiscal 2008. Total outlays for all Federal Food & Nutrition Services are $71 billion for the 1st 11 months of fiscal 2009.
Thus the combined Federal outlays for all Family Assistance & Food/Nutrition services is $119 billion for the 1st 11 months of fiscal 2009.
Total outlays for National Defense are $600 billion so far in 2009.
It also appears that the Treasury Dept. has given away an additional $313 billion to some undisclosed party in the 1st 11 months of fiscal 2009 (TARP?). (page 20, table 6)
None of this accounts for the trillions of additional taxpayer liability incurred by the Federal Reserve.
