Tablet, smartphone sales set records; apps skyrocket Insane...transition to 'smart' devices & apps for shopping and communicating compounds book readers into an extremely quick change from the rapidly becoming obsolete platforms. Like VCRs quickly the tech change in middle class and younger generation lifestyles drives products and services. Like most tech, low labor costs in Asia including the South Pacific countries of Indoniesia and the Phillipines provide devices to host apps, entertainment, shopping, communications, etc. ======================================== App developers reap benefits of tablet mania on December 30, 2011 Tablet computer makers and app developers will ring in the new year with fatter wallets as their year-end holiday sales shatter records. About 6.8 million tablets and smartphones using the two most-popular operating systems — Apple’s iOS or Google’s Android — were activated on Christmas Day, according Flurry Analytics, a firm that analyzes smartphone and app activity. That’s more than double last year’s Christmas Day sales, when 2.8 million devices were activated. Forrester Research estimates Apple sold 8 million iPads to U.S. consumers this quarter, while Amazon sold 5 million Kindle Fires. Andy Rubin, Google’s senior vice president in charge of Android, tweeted this week that 3.7 million Android devices were activated on either Christmas Eve or Christmas Day vs. 700,000 on Dec. 20. Since Apple’s App Store exploded onto tech lovers’ consciousness over three years ago, Christmas holidays have been kind to smartphone and tablet makers as well as app developers. A confluence of better products and consumers’ increasing familiarity kicked holiday sales this year into higher gear. “This year was insane,” says Peter Farago of Flurry Analytics. “We’ve seen holiday spikes like this in the last few Christmases. But the spike keeps getting bigger. The surprise was that the pop was so big, which means there has been a pent-up demand.” www.3dtablets.ca/app-developers-reap-benefits-of-tablet-mania

Just what we need. More electronic contraptions that have no beneficial effect on society whatsoever. In fact, they're strong negatives, as they distract people from driving safely and from performing any kind of productive activity at all.
The age of handheld computer devices has definitely set our society back. They REDUCE productiveness in every way, shape, & form. They provide completely unnecessary distractions, and an excuse for people to over-communicate volume-wise, and under-communicate content wise.
I wish I had a device that would instantly zap every one of these abominations, and permanently disable them.
Unfortunately, I forgot to ask Santa to bring me such a device for Christmas.
Maybe next year.

When I leave the comfort of our home, I either borrow my wife's basic cell phone or leave without a cell phone because of the 6 adults in our home I remain the sole person without their own cell phone. Some have 'smartphones' with cool apps that can comparison shop by reading bar codes of on the shelf in the store goods or GPS apps.
Cars are building in more electronic facilities as selling attractions for new buyers moreso every month and advertising these electronic connnections as features on TV, etc. These distractions seem to be as bad for driving attention as being drunk with bad reaction time. The driving coditions seem worse now than ever from distracted drivers that are sober but working through their Blackberries or texting friends.

These distractions seem to be as bad for driving attention as being drunk with bad reaction time. The driving conditions seem worse now than ever from distracted drivers that are sober but working through their Blackberries or texting friends. Amen to that! Distracted driving is increasing at an alarming rate. And it is ALL due to cell phones. People now wait several seconds to get going when lights change, so they can finish texting. Driving's become a complete disaster. It's not unusual nowadays for someone run into you while you're walking, because they're so distracted with their cell phone. I'm putting in my request to Santa right now for my cell phone jammer. I want the super-duper deluxe model, that can take out a whole city block.
