This message was a "side comment" on how to reduce the censorship and regulation of the internet. I have posted this type of message twice on www.slashdot.org and it never seemed to appear in the discussion groups. I think it might actually have gotten deleted/censored. We will see if this message disappears. ============================================== How about small groups setting up small networks independent of the internet, similar to "intranets" that appear in small to medium sized companies or similar to the old Bulletin Board Systems (BBS) of yester year. For example, you can buy a wireless router and let your neighbors join your local/private network. You can also add a separate file server to this setup as well. This can all be purchased for around $100 to $150 Just make this a separate private network that is not connected to the internet. Millions of private networks will be much harder for government to regulate and control.

I think I got censored again on www.slashdot.orgI mentioned my suggestion again about lots and lots of small independent networks (intranets) that are hard to control and monitor by big government. Topic: Executive Order Grants US Gov't New Powers Over Communication Systems yro.slashdot.org/story/12/07/10/1611237/executive-order-grants-us-govt-new-powers-over-communication-systems?sbsrc=mdAn anonymous reader writes "President Obama has issued a new executive order: 'Assignment of National Security and Emergency Preparedness Communications Functions.' EPIC reports: 'The Executive Order grants new powers to the Department of Homeland Security, including the ability to collect certain public communications information. Under the Executive Order the White House has also granted the Department the authority to seize private facilities when necessary, effectively shutting down or limiting civilian communications.' A few key excerpts from the exec order: 'The views of all levels of government, the private and nonprofit sectors, and the public must inform the development of national security and emergency preparedness (NS/EP) [National Security/Emergency Preparedness] communications policies, programs, and capabilities. ... Sec. 5.2. The Secretary of Homeland Security shall: (a) oversee the development, testing, implementation, and sustainment of NS/EP communications, including: communications that support Continuity of Government; Federal, State, local, territorial, and tribal emergency preparedness and response communications; non-military executive branch communications systems; critical infrastructure protection networks; and non-military communications networks, particularly with respect to prioritization and restoration; .... (e) satisfy priority communications requirements through the use of commercial, Government, and privately owned communications resources, when appropriate."

If anyone has seen my "indepenedent network" posting(s) on www.slashdot.org please let me know so that I will stop being paranoid about censorship. twk, I don't know how to find the posting you're describing. What screen-name are you using on slashdot.org? I was able to find links to the posting about the Obamamessiah's new executive order at EPIC. Executive Order SummaryI'm assuming from the language in this description that this gives the President power to seize the private intranet networks you were describing. Is that correct? I'm also going to re-post some of this same information in the "Non-Economic" section, as it pertains to Govt. spying and 4th Amendment infringement. Regarding "censorship," you're not being paranoid at all. The FBI will issue a National Security Letter at the drop of a hat, for any cause whatsoever, and without even trying to get a judge's approval. I know this for a fact, because it was done to me. I know this because they told me about it in person.

Thanks for looking
" I don't know how to find the posting you're describing." "What screen-name are you using on slashdot.org?"
I usually use twk, but this time on slashdot, I was posting anonymously so it will be hard to find an ID. Maybe the anonymous posting is a problem. Next time I will try with my user ID and see if that makes a difference.
How do you do your searches on slashdot.org?
Basically I just looked through the recent postings, say 20 minutes later, and the posting as not there.
