Texas-based Halliburton has announced plans to move its Corporate headquarters to Dubai. Halliburton, whose CEO from 1995-2000 was Vice President Dick Cheney, earned profits of $2.3 billion in 2006. This is the same Halliburton that, according to allegations by Federal investigators last month, [url=http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070312/ap_on_bi_ge/emirates_halliburton
]was responsible for $2.7 billion of the $10 billion in contractor waste and overcharging in Iraq.
Halliburton's sleaze-ball decision drew immediate criticism from U.S. politicians, such as Judiciary Committee Chairman [url=http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20070312/bs_nm/halliburton_mideast_listing_dc
]Patrick Leahy, who said ""This is an insult to the U.S. soldiers and taxpayers who paid the tab for their no-bid contracts and endured their overcharges for all these years."...
Rep. Henry Waxman (news, bio, voting record), chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, might hold a hearing on the implications, an aide to Waxman said.
Halliburton has drawn scrutiny from auditors, congressional Democrats and the Justice Department for the quality and pricing of its KBR Inc. (NYSE:KBR - news) unit's work for the U.S. army in Iraq....
KBR, the engineering and military-services contractor unit that Halliburton is in the process of splitting off, is the Pentagon's largest contractor in Iraq.
KBR has so far booked more than $20 billion in revenues from its work in Iraq and has been the target of several investigations into the company's billing practices. It has also faced complaints from some U.S. lawmakers about the company's close ties to the Bush administration."
More on this story can be found at Halliburton to move headquarters, CEO to Dubai and at Halliburton will move HG to Dubai.
You have to wonder about the "patriotism" of a company like Halliburton, that has bilked American taxpayers for billions of dollars in no-bid contracts through its connections with Vice President Cheney, and now wants to relocate to the Middle East when it realizes the Corporate Welfare gravy train is over, and that they might now be held accountable for war profiteering.
Now who is it that's "not supporting the troops"?
