1/22/07 For the week ending 1/19/07, the Dow Jones Industrial average increase 0.07%, from 12,556 at closing on January 12, to 12,565 at closing on January 19th. For the week ending 1/19/07, Gold prices increased 1.6%, from $625.40/oz. to $635.40/oz. Below is a graphic of modified charts from Yahoo News and Kitco.com showing the comparative price changes.

1/14/07 For the 7-day period ending on 1/12/07, the price of gold increased 3.3%, from $605.10 on January 5th to $625.40 on January 12th. For the 7-day period ending on 1/12/07, the Dow Jones Industrial increased 1.3%, from 12,398 at closing on January 5th, to 12,556 at closing on January 12th. Below is a graphic comparing the 1-week change in gold price vs. the Dow Jones. The final gold prices for the week are underlined in green.

1/7/07 Below is a graphic comparing the 1-week change in Gold prices with the 1-week change in the Dow Jones Industrial Average. The weekly end prices for gold are underlined in greenPrices for both gold and the Dow Jones declined for the week ending 1/5/07. However, the decline was much larger for Gold than for the Dow. Gold Prices declined almost 5%, while the Dow declined a little less than 1%. Clearly this was a worse week for gold than for the DJI.

12-31-06 Below is a graphic comparing the 1-week change in the Dow Jones Industrial to the 1-week change in gold price. The Dow increased from 12,343 from its close on 12/22/06 to 12,463 at the close on 12/29/06, for 1-week increase of 1%. Over the same time period, the price of gold increased from $619.60/ounce to $636.00/ounce, for an increase of 2.6%.

12/22/06 Below is a comparison of the 1-week change in gold prices vs. the 1-week change in the Dow Jones Industrial. The Dow declined approximately 100 points for the week, or about a -0.9% change. Meanwhile, the price of gold increased from approximately $614.50/oz. to $619.60/oz., or about a +0.8% for the week. Below is a copy of both gold prices and the 1-week Dow Jones Industrial. The beginning and ending prices for gold are denoted by the green arrows. (The top gold chart shows prices starting on Sunday, December 17th. The bottom gold chart shows prices through closing on December 22nd.)
