Is your iPhone or iPod Touch not rugged or manly enough for your taste? Here's the solution: the Bulletflight ballistics calculator, which predicts the trajectory of bullets fired from high-powered sniper rifles by taking into account half a dozen variables including wind speed, distance, outside temperature and altitude. After digesting all the information, Bulletflight tells you where exactly on the sniper scope you should position your target in order to hit it. The application is preprogrammed for three kinds of rifle sold by Knight's Armament Company (KAC) of Titusville, Fla., which commissioned and sells the app for $11.99 through Apple's iTunes App Store. Among the weapons is KAC's M110 sniper rifle, which went into service with the U.S. Army in 2007. Profiles for other kind of weapons, as well as the ammunition they use, can be added manually. The Firearm Blog praise Bulletflight's "sheer awesomeness," but noted that there's already another iPhone/iPod Touch app called iSnipe that does essentially the same thing, retails for $4.99 and isn't tied in to a specific arms manufacturer. yeah- i saw that on the history channel. It's both amazing and dissappointing that our soldiers find so many solutions from consumer electronics.

yeah- i saw that on the history channel. It's both amazing and dissappointing that our soldiers find so many solutions from consumer electronics. It's American ingenuity at its best. What better place is there to come up with innovation in the field than among the soldiers and marines in the frontline units and foxholes? Left up to our military planners at Arbedeen (sp) testing facilities, uses like these taken from private industry would never have been done. If for nothing more, just think how many taxpayer dollars have been saved, that would have been spent by mil-contractors to come up with the same tools. I say we should give these soldiers/marines one big Uhh Aaaah

the disappointment though is that if a civilian can buy it, then an enemy combatant can buy it.

Technology is a doubled edged sword - it cuts both ways and favors no one anymore.
A cell phone is a insurgent's best friend, you can talk to your buddies, detonate bombs, take pictures of enemy camps, etc.
Now we have a PD program perfect for the budding terrorist or lone loon who can now take out people at ranges and conditions he couldn't do before.
