In a 75-minute, exclusive interview Tuesday, Vilsack told me about his initial suspension of Shirley Sherrod and his subsequent meetings with President Obama about it. Vilsack also spoke frankly about how — without the labor of illegal immigrants — the price of food in the United States would cost “three, four or five times more than it does now.”

Nope, then again Vilsack is a tool for Obama's and his corporate driven open borders policy so one cannot expect much.
But Vilsack is a real piece of shit though for getting rid of Sherrod without personally reviewing her case, the video, etc. No he couldn't be bothered, he just threw that lady under the Obama express bus because Obama told him too.
Worthless SOB.
And given the worthless apology this clown uttered, I wouldn't trust a word that comes out of his pie hole.

Worthless SOB. Amen. I didn't realize how big an asshole Vilsack really was. For starters, his B.S. claim about food prices being 3-4 times higher without illegal immigrant labor, must be the product of some kind of LSD flashback, or other form of outright psychosis. A New York Times article from several years ago ( which I posted on this forum) laid this issue out quite well. A 40% increase in wages for agricultural workers would add only 2-3 cents per pound to the cost of produce. But what a 40% wage increase would also do, however, is reduce the profits of Corporate Agriculture and the campaign contributions to dirtballs like Vilsack that are financed from those profits. Instead of firing Sherrod, Vilsack should fire his own sorry ass.

His own words give lie to "Comprehensive Immigration Reform." The fascists don't want amnesty or anything like it - despite what they may say - as it would end the never ending source of fresh serf labor.
America's most productive farmland - the San Joaquin Valley - is poorer than Appalachia, with the highest foreclosure rates and car theft rates.

Cap times in Madison has made the case on countless occasions that without illegals farming in the state would be dead. But then as you point out that does not take into account what I call subsidized labor. Illegal immigrants wages are subsidized by local, state, and federal programs. Free traders rally against the market being subsidized but I can't think of any greater subsidization than free trade itself. It requires more and larger government programs just so workers can have subsistence wages.

Southern Agriculture would never have become mechanized if slavery wasn't abolished. IF the South won they'd still be an ass-backwards banana Republic.
Free Traders are retros. It's no mystery why the neocons and Libertarians bash the word "Progressive" because they are "Regressive".

Vilsack says without Illegals food cost increase
Translation: Without n i g g e r-slaves the cotton/tobacco costs would increase (In reality cotton/tobacco costs decreased after n i g g e r-slavery was abolished)
These is exactly the same arguments the old Dixie Southern Democrats made before the Civil War. Apparently when the Republican Party absorbed the South in the 1960's they also absorbed the pro-slavery old Dixie Southern Democrats and not a one of them fuck-wads changed their minds.
