Kinda funny coming from a company actively closing US facilities and sending them to Mexico, but um, OK, its a step in the right direction

Whirlpool Accuses LG and Samsung of 'Dumping' Washers Whirlpool on Friday filed legal action against South Korean rivals LG and Samsung, saying they dumped underpriced washing machines into the U.S. market in violation of trade laws.

»In a statement, Whirlpool said it had asked the U.S. government to investigate the two companies' production of washing machines in South Korea and Mexico, "which are being sold in the United States at substantially less than fair value."
"This action undermines competition, causes material injury to the appliance manufacturing industry, threatens American jobs and ultimately harms consumers who are left with fewer product choices," the firm said.
The anti-dumping petitions were filed with the Department of Commerce and the International Trade Commission.
Whirlpool said it also filed a companion petition for anti-subsidy duties against the same products from South Korea.
In October, Whirlpool won duties from the Department of Commerce on refrigerators it alleged were being dumped by LG and Samsung, and also by Mexican firm Mabe and Swedish competitor Electrolux.
Benton Harbor, Mich.-based Whirlpool employs 3,500 people at its washer manufacturing plant in Clyde, Ohio.

Screw the Worlpool cesspool. They bought up all the US competition. It'll be used appliances for me from now on. according to my appliance repairman those old ones will last way longer than anything new on the market it was not unusual 30-40years ago for a major applicance to last a decade or two now you are lucky to get one that lasts over 5-6 years

The new "computerized" washing machines--one of which I'm renting--are complete garbage. I assume they're some kind of foreign slave-labor-made crap, though I don't really know. It takes 2 hours to do the smallest load of laundry now, thanks to foreign production, and computerized "automation." My parents & I had a better washing machine in 1966 than we have now. You've just gotta love globalization & automation. Oh, how they've improved our lives!

Yes, same here. I had a hand me down from my parents 1978 Sears washer that just gave up the ghost about 3 years ago, would have probably gone on longer but my guy couldn't get parts for it anymore - 30 years of service
the new GE washer we bought one month out of waranty broke down. go figure. the service guy was able to half fix it, I "duct taped" the rest of the way there.
Yes, my wife made a similar observation recently as well. the "short cycle" on the new machine is around 50 minutes, with the regular one close to 1.5 hours. the old machine quick cycle was 15 minutes and doing the full cycle with extra rinse was 45 tops
supposedly these newer machines use less water and electricity but I dont see how thats possible if it runs 2- 3.5 times longer

Best thing might be to go to a used appliance store... and see if you can find an older model that's still working pretty well.
Yes, Maytag is totally fubared. I bought a new refridgerator from them, and it fell apart exactly five years from date of purchase. Not once, but three times, I lost all my food. They finally did a "permanent" fix on it, but by then, I was cooked. I sold my $1100 refridgerator for $100 and my sister gave me her old one.
It's still running like a top, knock on wood.
If it dies.... I will either buy the cheapest model I can find.... or try to get a used one. It's insane to spend buckets of money on something that won't last longer than a June frost.
