The 77-year-old retired pharmacist, Dimitris Christoulas, shot himself in the head on Wednesday after saying that financial troubles had pushed him over the edge. A suicide note said he preferred to die than scavenge for food.

Politics of the Backlash One theme that applies to my general axiom of 'Politics Matter' continues to be that one can expect an opposite political force to develop to extreme political establishments. The conservatives traditionally suppress labor and groups advocating for the masses of average working people resulting in those groups creating news worthy oppositions with mass demonstration leading upto violence almost always when inequalities reach the extremes such as in the 1840s, the 1920s, and now. Individuals can and do martyr themselves in sincere acts of sacrafice which does become a public event that the labor and groups advocating for the masses of average working people use to rally typically complascent, univolved youths and some professionals such as the Tunsians vendor who set himself on fire leading the uprising in the Arab Spring, or for example the young woman killed by Irainan sharpeshooters, or commonly in Asia the Buddists monks who set themselves on fire. The Greece of today has this type of martyr as shown in the piece above.

So, suicide and martyrdom is stage one, I understand that.
When will the Western world get to stage two?
