6/6/2007 The Senate is rushing to pass an amnesty bill that will give 20 million illegal aliens immediate legal status, cost taxpayers over $2 trillion and bring a flood of millions of immigrants to our nation. I just signed a petition to stop this bill. The goal is to deliver 750,000 petitions to Congress to stop amnesty. Please go here to sign: www.grassfire.org/42/petition.asp?PID=13556320&NID=1

Thanks for the link. I signed it and emailed it. I don't agree with most of Grassfire's positions. But I do agree with them on illegal immigration. I also want to include here a graph from the New York Times that gives a good overview of the illegal immigration situation. Note that a 40% increase in agricultural worker wages would cause only a 2-3 cent on the dollar increase in the price of produce. Needless to say, if Corporate Agri-business raised wages 40%, they'd have more workers than they'd know what to do with. We don't need amnesty for illegal immigrants, especially agricultural workers. We need higher wages for agricultural workers, which would result in a large increase in the "supply" of workers willing to work in agriculture. Again, we have 231 million working age Americans, while only 146 million of those are employed. This means we have 85 million potential workers who are not working. We don't have any labor shortage, in any industry. We have a wage deficiency, and a shortage of employers willing to pay the market rate for American labor.
