Another member on Democratic Underground posted a poll at DU asking the question: Is the term "illegal", when used as a noun, racist? 78% on Democratic Underground said NO. 22% said Yes. The link to the above poll can be found at: "illegal" Even on Democratic Underground, the open borders/amnestiacs are in the minority, just like the American public. I really hope Congress and the Senate are listening.

They are not - congress is 180 degress from the public on nearly everything from immigration to trade to the war- they will continue to support the big business illegal hirers and CofC lobbies.

The poll is now at 90 votes, and still 76% have said "no, 'illegal' is not a racist term."
The amnesty/open borders/cheap labor advocates seem to be incapable of accepting the idea that they represent an overwhelming minority opinion.
An overwhelming majority of Americans do not want illegal immigrants to receive amnesty, or have their work status in this country legalized. Yet the Corporate spin monsters are still trying to convince the public that they really do want amnesty, and that if you are against amnesty you are in the minority, and that your opposition makes you a racist, xenophobe, or bigot.
They may be convincing the Corporate whores in the House and Senate, but they're not convincing the American public.

The republican party is on the verge of a split or even an implosion over this issue
