1,300 So. CA illegals arrested LOS ANGELES, Oct. 3, 2007 (KABC-TV) - Immigration and customs agents have staged a massive crackdown on illegal immigrants, arresting hundreds across Southern California. For the past two weeks, ICE has been conducting what it calls a surge operation. It cast a wide net over seven counties in Southern California, and netted more than 1,300 illegal immigrants, most of them with criminal records. ICE teams of seven officers using tips and leads simply show up at the doors of known fugitives and knock. We're talking people who have been arrested for assault, reckless driving, all the way up into vehicular homicide, manslaughter things of that nature," Hayes said. Caught up in one of the biggest immigration stings ever, convicted criminals are swept back into their own countries, the kind of outsourcing no one complains about. Of the 1300 hundred who have been arrested, 45 had been previously deported from the United States. They are now being prosecuted for illegal reentry and facing up to 20 years in prison. abclocal.go.com/kabc/story?section=local&id=5688584

1,300,000 would be a major crackdown. This is for show.

Sure, it's for show, but it will put the fear of John Law in the rest of them. We also ought to publicize that we're outsourcing foreign born prisoners to a third country. I bet Kazakhstan and dozens of other countries would house them for half the price.

I bet Kazakhstan and dozens of other countries would house them for half the price. GB Even a "show" helps discourage illegal immigration. Even a better "show" would be for their illegal employers to be prosecuted. If 1,300 employers were prosecuted, or just the employers of these 1,300 were prosecuted, it'd put a huge dent in illegal immigration. The employers have more to lose, and their prosecution will change behavior. This 'show' is good thing. But better, and higher-paid 'actors' would make for an even better show. Since employers are the highest-paid 'actors' available, let's get them in the show. Let's make them the stars. It'll bring the house down.

Even a better "show" would be for their illegal employers to be prosecuted. You hit the nail on the head. I was just thinking the same thing. We always hear about illegal workers being deported but never illegal businesses being shut down. But then even the liberalist of rags try to give us sympathy stories for these illegal employers.
