I caught some of the Republican debate on the radio while driving thru Michigan. The chutzpah of these bozos coming to the state hardest hit by bad economic policy and unfair trade and proposing more of the same policies that got them there in the first place proved to me how completely out of sync these idiots are.
Michigan is in a depression - leading the nation in non sub prime foreclosures, job loss, wage declines and plant closures. The "official" unemployment number is 7.9% so the real number is closer to 10%. Mcihigan has lost 40% of its tax base and a corresponding number of mfg job losses - no shock there that these numbers correlate.
Romney's cheap shot at Governor Granholm who has done wonders to keep the state from going completely down the tubes was over the top.
Ron Paul was the only candidate that seemed to have any grasp of the malfunction in our economy. The rest of them avoided the issue on a debate that was supposed to be about the economy.
They should have made the candidates tour the closed down factories that dot the state's landscape and the neigborhood streets lined with for sale signs of homes that won't sell before the debate.
I am not sure if its sad or comical that the republicans are floundering about with their same old tired "tax cuts for the wealthy" and "global war on terror" as their answers to everything

Mmm .. Got ya. So then I would take it that the democrats are way more in touch then. Asides from assuming we will support them whatever garbage they throw at us (havent they alwyas taken that for granted) how do they differ? I found the time spent passing a resolution about 1910 Turkey particularly enlightening.

I am not sure how you get that from the posts nomad? Most politicians are out of touch these days. DLC democrats aren't much better than the republicans on these matters.
Yes I totally agree that the Turkey genocide vote at this time is stupid, but it has nothing to do with the republicans being out of touch with working Americans - something they have been for some time and finally its becoming noticed.
There are some who do get it though, like Kucinich, Dorgan, Sanders.
But on balance - yes the right is currently more out of sync with the public on matters of the war, the economy and health care than the left, but not by much.

Ah well, my apologies than if that wasn't your intent. I am just reacting to what I see as the typical runaround ... like, look, see how these publicats suck, see, so now by default of course you support we dinos right .... Grrr ... I am actually fortunate enough to live in the district that is having the special congressional election (Ma 5th) next week. Its a race between a brainless dino party hack, wife of a long dead former senator, who hasn't had an original thought in her entire life. Of course she is being followed around by every party hack and used to be (clinton, pelosi, kennedy) and even though she has no actual message outside of the standard talking points , the negative campaign that Washington insiders have dumped millions into has her in a slight lead ... a SLIGHT lead for a democrat against an unknown republican in Massachusetts? Umm, whats up? This is billed as referendum on the effectiveness of the democratic message. If the win is by 10% or less or if she somehow manages to lose, then the national dems will know that they will have to do more than point fingers to win. I mean, if it doesn't sell in Massachusetts imagine how it will be devoured in Nebraska? Even though I agree with virtually nothing that the republican says or does, I will be more than happy to vote for him Tuesday ... along with many of my associates ....Only way that I see we can get some real opposition in our opposition party is to wake them up ...
