Nearly 300 arrested in immigration raids at poultry plants By ANABELLE GARAY, Associated Press Writer MOUNT PLEASANT, Texas - Federal agents arrested nearly 300 people Wednesday in raids at Pilgrim's Pride chicken plants in five states, the latest crackdown on illegal immigrant labor at the nation's poultry producers.

Though generally encouraging, this story still shows the major problems about how to reduce illegal immigration.
Why not? Why aren't charges being filed against the employer? Does anyone believe they un-knowingly hired 300 illegal immigrants?
We'll never put a dent in illegal immigration unless we start prosecuting employers. Instead of getting "cooperation" from Pilgrim's Pride, why not try to get "cooperation" from the illegal immigrants themselves? Offer amnesty to those who'll cooperate in prosecution of the employer.
As it stands, just 1 employer was responsible for 300 illegal hirings. Wouldn't it make more sense to go after just that 1 employer, instead of 300 workers? Wouldn't it be a stronger deterrent to illegal hiring to prosecute 1 large employer, with ample money and much to lose, than to simply deport 300 illegal immigrants?
Is the threat of deportation really that great? Is the threat of deportation a bigger deterrent than Pilgrim's Pride being prosecuted, and being assessed huge fines, with possible imprisonment of the responsible individuals?
If the consequences to employers for hiring illegally was sufficient, they wouldn't hire illegally. And there wouldn't be a need to deport anyone, because there'd be no illegally employed workers to deport.

There is just one problem with going after the corporations; it will not happen, because America is run by the corporations. They control not only the media and the politicians; but they control just about everything. America is run by corporations. They generate the money and power that controls America. America is a corporate state.

Hey, if business is down and you want to have a painless layoff, call in ICE. You won't even have to give them termination pay.

I hate that enforcement is barely enough to get a rare press coverage. I rather see great enforcement than the Trillions spent in IRAQ.
