No Global Warming in US NOAA: U.S. Has 36th Coolest Spring on Record June 6, 2008 The March-May spring season was the 36th coolest on record for the contiguous United States, according to an analysis by NOAA’s National Climatic Data Center in Asheville, N.C. Separately, last month ended as the 34th coolest May for the contiguous United States, based on records dating back to 1895. The average spring temperature of 51.4 degrees F was 0.5 degree F below the 20th century average. The average May temperature of 60.3 degrees F was 0.7 degree F below the 20th century mean, based on preliminary data. www.noaanews.noaa.gov/stories2008/20080606_ncdcspring.html

We're under tornado watch again right now in northern Illinois. Doesn't global warming explain the record number of tornadoes this year?

glad you clear'd that up, Jeffolie ... and just as i was about ready to explore the claims offered up by -- the proclaimed father of the internet (also claimed inspiration for the '70 film Love Story) and the only GI who served in Vietnam (when i was there) who had a body guard assigned for his protection while serving as a journalist for Stars & Stripes -- who sez climate change (aka global warming) is a manmade problem.
BTW I planted 6 trees this years and have carbon credits for sale for them needing carbon offsets, if anybody's interested ;D ;D ;D

All you need is a basic understanding of thermodynamics to see that climate change is for real. There will be more extremes of weather. a one or two degree rise in temperature doesn't sound like much but it represents exponentially huge amounts of thermal energy in the atmosphere and ocean.
The earths mechanisms for dissipating this energy is storms. There will be places that are colder, warmer, dryer wetter than their normal patterns.
The earths mechanism for carbon removal is plant life - as deforestation is occurring due to urban sprawl, desertification and agriculture hinders the earths ability to remove carbon from the atmosphere
Here in the Midwest as GB says Tornado season has come fast and furious, and we have already had a years worth of rainfall.
jeffolie -One season does not a trend make. We started with a fairly mild spring and all the climate change deniers were in full force saying "see!" "see!" however if you look at the data wee actually had what would have been considered a normal spring 20 plus years ago.
There is a downside to denying and ignoring the science, no downside in reducing the amount of carbon and other greenhouse gases, unless of course you are a shill for the fossil fuel industry.
and txdirtfarm - look it up - first of all the Gore statement is taken WAY out of context - as has been proven many times over and second of all he did sponsor the legislation that made the internet available to the general public. I thank Al for doing this as now we have an outlet for news and information not as influenced by the corporate MSM, and the AM radio blowhards you seem to agree with mostly, but off course out of context statements and gross exaggeration is the stock in trade of the right wing smear machine. At least AL went to vietnam, where were your chickenhawk boys back then? Darth "I had other priorities" Cheney? GWB cushy guard job he barely showed up for?

Last first: www.AWOLbush.comDuh, the US is a tiny portion of the globe. What's happening here is not in isolation. Melting of the Greenland ice cap could interrupt the gulfstream and put Europe into a severe winter. It's now melting faster than predictions, bringing more storms to the pacific northwest. How about the drought in the US Southwest? Have you noticed that being relieved? Australia's rice production is down 98% due to drought. For every big oil shill scientist, there are a hundred honest scientists. GB

The Cedar river in eastern Iowa is in a 500 year flood, and more heavy rain is on the way.

In North Carolina we just had 5 days of 100 degree plus days in a row. It set a few weather records for the region including the earliest in the year a 100 degree day occurred since the weather service started keeping records. And this is on the heels of the worst drought we have ever experienced. We were down to mere days of water left.
I am a believer.
