I've been trying to research some different tax policy ideas ( have a fuzzy one of my own in my head) and i stumbled across thisI searched this board and noticed there wasn't any discussion of it. there were a few articles in February, which led me to believe the bill had been introduced then, and seemed like pandering to ohio. but the bill was introduced in august 2007. anyway- one article supportingand one article againsti really hate the way democrats tend to screw things up by crossing a few too many purposes across one bill. Particularly forcing businesses to offset the costs of national guard employees... still- don't suppose there is a republican counterbill for comparison purposes?

I heard about this sometime in the past, and actually looked into it. From what I can see, it's too nuanced to do very much to save American jobs from outsourcing, which appears to be one of its goals. Most of it's provisions are "optional", which essentially makes it worthless. If restoring manufacturing and reducing the trade deficit is the goal, we need something much more direct. A perfect example would be the Balanced Trade Restoration Act, which has not been mentioned since early 2007 (and which I posted on earlier today). From what I've read, the Patriot Employer Act looks like nothing but a symbolic gesture to get votes, in contrast to the Balanced Trade Restoration Act, which looks like a measure truly designed to help the American people.
