yeah- i was fired today... which - as i write this , means yesterday (friday) was my last day at work.
....
there are a lot of mixed emotions and unresolved feelings i could elaborate upon, but i digress and i'll share what is probably pertinent to what it is that the patrons of this board stand for.
I work for a company that sells baby related products online. When they aren't doing that- they are providing bay related content and selling advertising space to vendors online.
one morning i walk into work during our "metrics" meeting and there is a chart on the bigscreen. what is noticable is that after a serious of bars in one direction, there is this big blue bar in the opposite direction. the graph is for the store sales. guess what the explanation for the lagging sales is. "lagging economy"
just to connect point c to point d- guess who works in the store section?
so yeah.
I'll tell you something that will probably scare the shit out of those of you older than i am (i'm going to guess that's everyone here) ..
fuck it- if you are over 30 raise your hand. If you are raising your hand- be scared.
the truth is i kind of figured that this is what it would come to. I haven't worked a job longer than 2 years since i've graduated from college. For me, it's a way of life really. like some sort of sick sycophantic fantasy of what the ideal workforce of the neo-conservative agenda is. " sure fire me! i didn't really have anything better to do anyway"......
Pensions? psha! that's for military or deadenders.....
Healthcare? yeah, one of my jobs had that, but the sales rep made mentions of the fact that if anyone of us was diabetic, then the sales figures were literally "upside down." I didn't ever go in for a check up, considered it my duty to keep that figure low.
UI?
I AM going to apply for unemployment, even though I was employed as a contractor and the EDD has some funny rules about that. The point though is that when NPR or bloomberg makes an announcement about the number of "unemployment applications" that have been filed for the month of september- you can bet my ass will be one of the numbers in the ledger, even if i never recieve any benefits...
... and then there was my 3 hours living as a bum on the streets of san franciscso. But i'm too tired and suffice to say, i hate anyone that seems to speak of personal experience without realizing how privileged their experience was.
but yeah- i can't wait to enjoy my monthlong vacation!
