stumbled across something that ended up distressing and heartening at the same time.
A coalition of conservative forces has unleashed a new website www.rebuildtheparty.com/ .(HIGHLY recommended for anyone here that still considers themselves a republican)(actually- the link down-post is way more important)
If you haven't guessed by now, i'm utterly fascinated by what will happen with the red party after this election. Part of this might be an inherent subliminal fascination with all things daoistic, but mostly it's because i pride myself on trying to be a true independent. The problem is, (more of) the ideals held by the democratic party are smarter than those held by the right. The problem then, is that if the democratic party fails me, where do i go?
So the idea that the republican party might rebuild itself in a identity that might intrigue me is invigorating and has me curious, it makes me want to give the republican party a second chance (some would argue a first chance).
so i checked out the link- and it's crap.
bulletin points on winning an imaginary election dictated to the viewer as if he was a peon sucked into a machine with no understanding of what went wrong in the first place. I'd analyze it more in depth, but i'd rather skip to what was good.
What was good, was this link
ideas.rebuildtheparty.com/ (click the lightbulb from the first page)
where as the first page was a corporatelike plan of action, this page was nothing more than a list of ideas submitted by participants and voted on by endusers- and seeing what dominates the list is heartening:
Reach out to Ron Paul and the Campaign for Freedom tops the list but i'm guessing smurfs
Small "c" conservatives
Make room for libertarians. Boot the neocons
be inclusive.
Fiscal conservatism, Limited govt, Constitutional rights
Stop allowing religious bigotry in the party (this one talks about mormons vs evangelicals)
Step away from the religious right
do a better job in Black and Latino communities
the site is new and i already ran into service errors while perusing it, but that's another attractive quality, the site has more activity than redstate.com and LGF- (doubt it beats freep). I'm curious and watching.
