Is that where we're headed? Will a small number of lords rule the world, while the rest are serfs, their slaves?
I haven't seen it written like this, but I wonder.
Three billion people live on $2 a day. . The American Middle Class, and probably middle classes all over the world are shrinking. Will they become extinct? Is outsourcing to the cheapest labor markets being sought merely for short term profits, without regard to the future? Or is there a conspiracy to enslave the masses?
Communist China proves you don't need much, if any, Middle Class to produce everything from electronics to airplanes. How many free people would it take to provide support and safety to the lords, or will even the support people be free?

this is a perennial topic. no matter what the economic structure is, there will always be someone that tells other people what to do at a fundamental level. Usually that person giving the orders has some merit doing so and things are fine. When that person fucks up though, then we have what has happened in the economy over the past 1 (to 17) years, and discussions like what you've posted GB.

There was a time in human history where some sort of feudalism was necessary for survival of society, especially when most people couldn't read, and were basically unaware of what was going on in the world around them.
The situation is entirely different today. The Corporate controlled media could easily make people fully aware of all events throughout the world, keeping people completely informed. Unfortunately, the media has become an apologist for governments, and an organ of propaganda dissemination. It is now the media's mission to keep people misinformed, and limit the information the populace receives to that which will make their sponsors the most money.
This is not just limited to products advertised. This includes the whole world view portrayed. It even extends to their portrayal of historical events. It is in the media's best interest to deceive the people into believing such nonsense like the banks being essential to our very existence, and that the world would come to an end without them. It is in their interest to convince the people that giving taxpayers money to failing financial mega-Corporations is in their best interests, using such imbecilic soundbites as "a poor person never created a job."
The old feudalism was born out of necessity. The new feudalism is born out of greed, deception, and deliberate misinformation. Whereas it was true that "the truth would set you free" under the old feudalism, it was impossible to disseminate such truth--simply because the means to disseminate it were not available. Truth dissemination back then was impossible--due to the real technical limitations of that time.
It is even more true today that "the truth will set you free." But unlike yesteryear, the lack of dissemination today is by choice. The means are freely available to do so, but the will is not there.
We don't need feudalism today. It is very possible to accurately inform the public about what is going on in our country and the world today. It's simply not convenient for those in power to do so. It is not in their economic interests to do so.
We are not uninformed today because of technological limitations.
We are uninformed by choice, not out of necessity.
Yes, we "can handle the truth." It is only that the "knowers" of the truth can't handle us knowing it.
