Slaves and peasants don't make good consumers/customers, so the slave owner has a surplus goods to sell and must look outwards for trade; this is why Free Trade and Slavery go hand in hand.
The South fought tooth and nail against Tariffs and for open borders (so they could import more slaves), even starting the Civil War over it. They killed for free trade and open borders. Libertarians are the Dixie-crats, Libertarians are capable of killing for free trade and open borders.

Excellent parallel.
And that's exactly what was happening in the South before the Civil War. They needed someone to sell their goods to, since they didn't pay their workers enough to buy them.
