We need 100% inspection of all imports - paid by the importers. Here are some examples:
*80% of our seafood is imported, and less than 1% is inspected. Lots of it is raised in raw sewage in Communist China, and chemicals and antibiotics are rampant. Alabama inspects seafood imports, and rejects more than half.
*Communist Chinese drywall is toxic, causing headaches and corrosion of plumbing and wiring. Our govt is recommending removal - at a typical cost of $100K per house. Guess who pays? *Intentionally poisoned Heparin, imported from Communist China, was being sold at about $1K per dose by Baxter Labs until it was linked to sickness and deaths in hospitals where it is administered in advance of surgery. The news of it sneaked out on this Forum on Friday, Feb. 15, 2008, the day after my wife was originally scheduled for surgery. I had postponed the surgery from Feb. 14 due to Valentine's Day, to Feb. 21, and then the story broke. ------- Importer paid inspections will provide lots of jobs of all skill levels here in the US, and will go far to protect us from all kinds of ills and sabotage. Uh, and it will also stop the import of illegal aliens.

Uh, and it will also stop the import of illegal aliens. And hopefully importer-paid inspections would not just reduce the quantity of toxic goods imported, but reduce the quantity of goods imported altogether--by increasing the price. The United States is blessed with the ability to produce, extract, and grow almost everything it needs. We'd be the winners of any trade war by default. We've got at least 8 million more "surplus" workers than we had 2 years ago--many of whom would be happy to have a well paying job inspecting imports--which, as a side benefit--would raise the price of imports and increase domestic production demand to offset the guaranteed fall in imports. But I don't think inspections go anywhere near far enough. We need to go beyond just inspecting goods from China. We need to throw 'em into the Pacific Ocean (or bury them in a landfill). As I've advocated elsewhere, we need to completely block ALL imports from China. Enough is enough. They're beyond redemption. They've had a decade to straighten up their act, and have done nothing. Time to stop sending them our money, jobs, technology, and our economic future. I say let the Chinese Embargo begin. 2.5 million jobs lost is more than enough.

Bring it on.
