Last night they mentioned that Maytag had 2500 workers in Newton, Iowa, at one time, until they were bought out and the plant shipped to Mexico. Then they spent the next 15 minutes showing the devastation and anger that has resulted.
They failed to mention it was Whirlpool who bought Maytag, as the neutered (by Reagan) DOJ Anti-trust Div did nothing.
They failed to mention our failed trade policies that dealt the final blow.

Sixty couldn't go into detail because it would implicate Obama big time in the job loss and shows even years ago the man was a fraud. Seems Obama originally promised to protect those workers and along comes Lester Crown(a major player in Democratic politics and stock holder in Maytag) and gives the fella a massive campaign contribution and Obama then gives the shaft to the workers. The Whirlpool takeover of once great brand Maytag has been disastrous
Plants have closed in Newton IA, Herrin and Galesburg IL, TN, St Joseph MI and most recently the last US refrigerator plant in Evansville IN - 3000 jobs shipped off to Mexico.
When these plants close they severely impact the local economies not just in direct employment, but at the parts, tooling and equipment suppliers, service providers, local merchants and on down the chain. In the cases of small towns like these, these companies are the major employers and tax base.
At the same time, Whirlpool has accepted over 19 million in govt grants and abatements.
Little wonder as well, as the appliance industry offshores, the quality of appliances has seriously declined
