The rate of foreclosures rose again in March. According to RealtyTrac, as reported through efinance, March's total foreclosures were 149,150. That's an annualized foreclosure rate of 1.8 million. The March total for California was 31,434, for an annualized rate of 377,000/year. Below are excerpts from 2 articles on foreclosure from efinance.

"Nevada once again topped the list with the highest foreclosure ranking. Foreclosure activity increased a whopping 29 percent in March over the previous month. There were a total of 4,728 foreclosures, or one for every 183 households.
Colorado was second on the list with 6,267 foreclosure filings, or one for every 292 households. These numbers are up 18 percent over February, and up 16 percent from the same time last year.
California also had a significant increase in foreclosure activity with 31,434 filings. The number is up 36 percent from last month, and up almost 184 percent from last year. The surge has put one in every 389 California households in danger of losing their home.

"As predicted in our January 2007 Foreclosure Report, foreclosure activity increased in Florida (up 91 percent), California (up 79 percent), and Nevada (up 77 percent).
There was also a significant spike in foreclosure filings in Alabama (up 461 percent), New Hampshire (up 350 percent), and Delaware/District of Columbia (up 253 percent).
Nevada, Colorado, and Florida posted the highest foreclosure rates per household. Florida has so many foreclosure filings, the state accounted for 8.5 percent of all U.S. foreclosure activity....
