This austerity frustration most likely will come to America...I think by 2014 after Republicans win in 2012 the Senate, House and Presidency. " budget cuts....LONDON PROTESTS: 400,000 ... While the government has been cutting public spending, the UK has been experiencing high inflation and low growth, which is now dampening the ability of those cuts to trim the deficit.=========================== LONDON PROTESTS: 400,000 Hit The Street; Police Attacked With "Light Bulbs Filled With Ammonia;" HSBC Branch Attacked Mar. 26, 2011 The Latest: Protesters have thrown light bulbs full of ammonia at police officers on Oxford Street, according to the Metropolitan Police Force's twitter feed. It appears the majority if the violence is around London's Oxford Street shopping area, which was a rumored target for more aggressive protesters. The Met says two significant violent events have occurred away from the main protest route. The latest from Sky News is that 500 protesters have attacked an HSBC bank branch in Central London. The Ritz Hotel, in Mayfair, has also been attacked by protesters, according to Sky. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Earlier: Hundreds of thousands of people are out in the streets of London today protesting government budget cuts. Early estimates had it around 250,000, but now there are suggestions it could be 400,000. Thus far, protests have been nothing like those in London earlier this year, where students invaded buildings and attacked Prince Charles' car. The protest route stretches from Hyde Park, past Parliament, and down the Thames, according to the Guardian. It involves a wide section of people opposed to government policy, not just student protesters like previous events. These protest come just days after Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osbourne released his latest budget, which called for more austerity cuts. While the government has been cutting public spending, the UK has been experiencing high inflation and low growth, which is now dampening the ability of those cuts to trim the deficit.Read more: www.businessinsider.com/london-protest-march-26-2011-3#ixzz1Hipf6XQA

The decision to bail out British banks at the expense of the citizenry has sure worked out well, hasn't it.
The British people have finally had enough, and are doing something about it.
Are we next?

Heh, the Brits couldn't even break the windows of the banks. Those at 10 Downing Street were probably amused at the show.
Some protest.
They'd be better off hunting down the family members of the banking/investment class and start breaking bones, lots of'em.
Implement the austerity measures here in the U.S. and you'll get armed riots if not rebellions soon after. It'll be Kunstler's corn pone rebellion nightmare made real. The Rubin's, Greenspan's and the Blankfein's of the investment world better watch out should that occur. They may find their larcenous traditions of ripping people off coming to a brutal and abrupt end.

The French went on a CEO kidnapping spree. It's about time the working class got out the guillotines. Worldwide.

Americans appear too complacent and pleased with rejecting Democrats by electing a Republican Houses for my tastes and do not understand that America is headed to a European styled austerity.
'Bread and circuses' distract and entertain average American with about 50% now Facebook users. Women seem happy to text about immediate shallow social meetings and relationships on their phones an average of 1000 times per month while ignoring all important political issues. Women that voted for Obama voted to reject Democrats in November but did not join the Republican party with changing their voter registrations. Women for the most part kept their jobs, not men. Women have spending money and are not angry.
Minor and failing protests by public sector unionized workers will not bring significant 'politics of the backlash' to dislodge control from the financial elites over corporations and government. If anything, Republicans are energized by destroying unions and Obama's appeasement of Tea Party influenced House Republicans. The European version of 'politics of the backlash' is happening and as I predicted PIIGS leaders are falling/losing control. Americans favor rejecting Democrats for now, I expect Americans will reject Republican austerity after they comprehend it in 2014 or beyond as a 'politics of the backlash' against Republicans. But, by then the financial damage to US Treasuries' interest rate will be done resulting in PIIGS styled high yields leading to financial disaster. Women will get angry when they are broke, then resulting in using Facebook to coordinate and organize protests that become riots as women now are doing in the Mid East.
American riots in 2014 or beyond.

A couple of things:
Women are getting shit canned now just like men. It just took longer for the off-shorers to gut them like a trout and send their office jobs to India. What remains in many cases are crappy service jobs that pay squat.
Nor can you eat Facebook, HALO or a IPOD or any of the high tech fetishes that young people are obsessed with today. Which also applies to the bread and circuses put out by the Hollywood elite that work in tandem with those on the east coast. As Rome found out, entertainment only goes so far when there is no bread and when barbarians are at the gate.
Those high tech fetishes along with American Idiot will quickly lose their appeal once then sheep lose their paycheck and are forced to give up high speed internet connections and those $100 a month cell phone plans just to eat.
The short of it, the 30 years of the East and West coast elites of keeping Americans fat, ignorant and docile in order to destroy the country culturally and economically is coming to a end. Where it goes from there is dependent on the responses of the elite.
And should the elites get their wayl, the country will face Balkanization. The U.S. will cease to exist.
Minor and failing protests by public sector unionized workers will not bring significant 'politics of the backlash' to dislodge control from the financial elites over corporations and government
Of course not. The public despises the public sector employees and their fat cat benefits packages and spoiled attitudes. As a result they'd never get the support from the private sector workers for anything. Also those in the private sector know the state workers would never reciprocate.
The only things I see that would dislodge the elites is either the destruction of both political parties and replaced by new parties. Or direct action against said elites - both in Hollywood, our universities and the Wall Street.

waltc Wrong...women are not getting shit canned now just like men "...1. Male employment is down by 4,932,000 jobs since the January 2008 peak, compared to female employment being 2.549 million jobs below the peak. Therefore, we can say that for every 100 jobs lost by women since the start of the recession, men have lost 193.5 jobs. 2. On a percentage basis, men have suffered about 66% of the recession-related job losses, and women only 34%. mjperry.blogspot.com/

When I was downsized, being a female didn't get me any preferential treatment. It did "help" me to get rehired, but it still took three years to get a full time job with benefits.
So many of my coworkers who were also downsized were married, though... so, if there are two mules hitched to the unemployment wagon, there is a much more hopeful scenario there. You have "another" money pot available to you (unless your mate also lost their job... but then, that makes for two unemployment checks). You also have a double social network to help you find another job.
Single people are much more screwed in a job loss.

I often write about women remaining single and a poll result that 39% of women think marriage is obsolete. Single mothers unfortunately suffer mightily with concerns about their children adding another layer of difficult emotions to cope with. My situation was unusual for today's family. I was the sole income earner while my wife stayed home raising our 4 children since our first born was 5. If I had lost my job, then like a single person there would have been no 2nd mule, 2nd income earner, 2nd pool of money, 2nd unemployment check. It was a gamble to rely on just my income. My wife always was upfront with her dream of being a stay at home mother so she accepted the risk of depending on my being the single provider. In a less direct way it still remains that way, now that I am retired and my pension provides our income. If my pension disappeared then our family with 3 now in college would depend on my modest hoard of metals mostly since getting a job with enough income at my age would be extremely unlikely.
