I read most of Rands books in High School. The best was clearly the Fountainhead. Shrrugged on the other hand was juvenile, predictable and way too long
She was a bit of a sociopath, with a cult of personality
I find it quaint that the libertarian right base their economic theory and opinion on a boring 1950's novel
thats a bit like someone basing a religion on a cheezy sci-fi book from the 50's.....oh wait, someone did that too!

Fed chairman Alan Greenspan used to hang out at Ayn Rand's apartment before she published, true. Greenspan's unregulated markets approach developed there with the small group of Rand admirers. In my opinion, Greenspan significantly contributed to the real estate boom/bust as well as the concentration of more power/money in a hand full of banks plus promoting the 'shadow financial/banking' system with almost unregulated 'securitizations' of debt instruments. In short, Greenspan applied Rand's ramblings to the world's financial system with disastrous consequences. "....In 1951 Rand moved from Los Angeles to New York City, where she gathered a group of these admirers around her. This group (jokingly designated "The Collective") included future Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan, a young psychology student named Nathan Blumenthal (later Nathaniel Branden) and his wife Barbara, and Barbara's cousin Leonard Peikoff. At first the group was an informal gathering of friends who met with Rand on weekends at her apartment to discuss philosophy. Later she began allowing them to read the drafts of her new novel, Atlas Shrugged, as the manuscript pages were written....' en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ayn_Rand

Alissa Zinovievna Rosenbaum, AKA Ayn Rand, was a Jewish intellectual terrorist who infected others with her religion of amorality, hyper individuality and greed.
She also spent her life chain smoking, her rationale? To show the body who was boss.
She was also a dexedrine(speed) addict for most of her life. It cost her friends and family, whom she gave the boot at the slightest disagreement.
Real nasty piece of work.
It's really funny to notice that a lot of her supporters are from the religious right. They don't understand she despised religion.
If she were alive today she'd be best friends with Madoff and Blankfein.
