starvation in the 'midst of plenty... status attached to how freely we can toss what would save another human being...
And to think that systematic waste...by design, earns fabulous profits (all up and down the supply chain.)

Feed that leftover food to people and they'll sue you.
One time I asked the AAFES people who run the food service trucks that come to various job sites at military bases what they do with the leftovers, the workers said, 'we give it to pig farmers'. The amount they gave was staggering.
They went on to say that if they gave it away to people they could be sued and held criminally liable if someone got sick. Also it was a Health code violation to boot.
OTOH I've seen plenty of churches in my area give away free food baskets(or low cost baskets) and meals. And the people showing up are generally obese. They were well on their way to becoming diabetics and rascal users.
So far the only people I've seen who are starving are those who choose to spend their state and social security checks on booze and drugs. And you can't help those people, they just want to check out.
