Maybe nobody else remembers: it was reported on this Forum that the job growth in the Bu$h years was all govt jobs. Private jobs decreased.
Now we have the war on govt jobs.

" American Icon" Alan Mulally and the Fight to Save Ford Motor Company People who knew Mulally at Boeing say he really is the smartest guy in the room, so I set the DVR to capture any program containing his name. This morning it caught an author's signing and 45 minute book review near Dearborn with the above title. It was on Cspan 2, Booktv. It was very interesting, and I would buy the book, but I seldom have the patience to read a whole book. Not only did Mulally turn around a dying FoMoCo, his tactics were copied by the govt to save GM and Chrysler, especially GM. www.brycehoffman.com/ GB

3D printers are not competitive with mass production.
I've seen some pretty good cash for clunker cars at the local PickUrPart. They are identified by bright green paint on the front. Every part of the car is for sale except the engine block and heads.
On Fords at least, engines are good for at least 200K miles without repair. Accessories fail, of course, but not blocks and heads. Trannies are not so good. Ford will be replacing the torque converter on my 2004 Monterey with over 100K miles, Free of Charge.

"The source is mistaken on the gifts."
No, the rightwingnutjob source lied about the gifts to make political points.
Given all the gun sales in the last four years, and sources like above, his chances of survival have not been assuring. Twelve of his Secret Service just got sent home from Colombia; something about a prostitute, and who knows what else.
Thanks for the enlightening info in your last post, Jeffo. Why did you start this thread in the first place?

I just searched on IRS.gov for gift on form 1040, and nada. Pub 950 regarding form 709 says gifts up to the limit aren't taxable, but nowhere can I find these gifts are deductible.
If these gifts aren't deductible for the giver, then what's the tax consequence?

Is that deduction available for adult children? Do the children have to pay tax on that income? If the child is given enough, does it no longer qualify as a dependent?

They asked the question wrong.
Raising a family is a lot of work. (unless you're in the 0.1% with hired help)
Ann Romney is out of touch with the economic issues facing working women.
It's yes on both counts.

Stand your ground or not, probably very few gun owners think through the whole aftermath of shooting an intruder. It doesn't end with the shooting; both lives are ruined.
Hopefully, justice will prevail in this case.

55 vs. 78 mph = ~20% less gas, or about 3 cents per mile, max. 55 vs. 78 mph = ~40% longer time to arrive. How much is your time worth?
Ex. 40 mile trip at 78 takes ~31 minutes. 40 mile trip at 55 takes ~44 minutes. Spending an extra 13 minutes in the car saves $1.20, or less than $6 per hour. That ain't even minimum wage.
Wanna' save gas? Stay home.

Professional house maintenance has to be a growing opportunity for a plucky, mechanically talented person or family. I have a niece who has been in that business since about 2004, and doing well.

I'd just be happy if contractors weren't so sloppy. I'm sure I've had at least one flat tire from dropped nails from every remodel project on our street, and a couple of ruined tires.

Does anybody know the money trail for Spanish companies that have bought infrastructure in the US, like toll roads? Are these companies still viable?

60' had a Dr. Lustig from UCSF and others on about sugar and its effects on the body, and on our brains. If you don't catch it, you will be hearing plenty soon.
Dr. Lustig was also on Pacifica Radio today. They have tied sugar intake to heart disease, Type II diabetes, of course; and cancer. He believes those diseases could be cut by 75% with sugar restriction.
As I've written here before, sugar should be taxed until the revenues at least equal its medical costs.

The coroner said Martin's body was pristine, except for the gunshot in the chest. There was no evidence of abrasions on his knuckles.
"Trayvon, 6-foot-3 and 140 pounds, then reportedly climbed on top of the 250-pound Zimmerman and bashed his head into the sidewalk several times. "
140 lbs beating up a 250 pound young man? That stretches credibility just a bit.

It's been featured on shows like, "My Classic Car" where the printer is shown and described by Leno. The printer duplicates complex parts in plastic. If you want to duplicate a car's waterpump, it will duplicate the housing, shaft and impeller in plastic. Then you have to make female molds of these parts for casting in aluminum, iron, or steel. It is a reverse engineering tool, not a mass production device. www.jaylenosgarage.com/video/3d-scanning-software/1378748GB

The pervasive calling of all our volunteer military as Heroes seems to be dying down. Reality seems to be setting in. I have never thought of the military as heroes. There are good and bad among them, just like the civilians they were.
Rather, I look on them with sympathy, realizing most of them joined the military due to lack of decent civilian jobs and careers. I'm sure more and more of civilian hiring of ex-military is looked on as hiring the Handicapped, rather than hiring the returning heroes. Wouldn't you think twice about hiring a guy who might go postal at any time?
The costs of these present awful oil wars disguised as Crusades will grow and endure.

Meanwhile, the high gas price has put lots more motorcycles commuting on the freeways. The tv traffic reporters have noticed the spike in motocycle involved accidents. The unintended consequence is a lot more brain deaths. I knew a 40 year old father who ran up a bill of over $1 Million medical charges before they pulled the plug six weeks later. Yeh, we all paid it.

Why haven't the whining Repubs made any statements against the ChiComs?
I'm not defending Obama on this any more than I would defend Clinton or Bu$h. They're all traitors. The ChiComs are not blameless.
4.7% tariff: has anybody explained 4.7% of what? Suggested retail price which is a variable? Wholesale price, which is a variable? Cost to manufacture, which is hard to identify? That's the challenge with percentage tariffs. A flat $100 per panel would be easier to determine and administer.
Meanwhile, 100% inspection of imports - paid by the importers - would slow them down and provide a service of safety and quality to American consumers.
Rather than the 19% tariff on ChCom tires a couple of years ago, 100% inspection of them would have reduced the number of failures, many of which resulted in accidents.

Why wasn't Zimmerman given a blood test? Where are the paramedics who responded to his bloodied head and broken nose?
