Here is a link to the DLC's postitions on trade - more of the same job killing, middle class squeezing and wage suppressing ideology nonsense that you hear from republicans We must get rid of these traitors at every election opportunity Amen. Edward Gresser, the main author of the articles, is a real mental midget. He whines about how a tariff increases the price of imported goods on poor people, while ignoring the fact that many of those people are poor because of job loss from outsourcing (which tariffs help prevent from happening), and EVERYONE is poorer from the wage suppression caused by the ever increasing supply of workers, and the outsourcing-induced decline in demand for American workers. In my view, $20 billion is a ridiculously small amount of tariffs. They should be much, much higher. We should be charging something like $200 billion, or even $2 trillion in tariffs. Those tariffs would not be passed on to American consumers, because American companies would make the product for less. It's only the trivial, non-effective tariffs that increase import prices, without increasing American jobs. In contrast, high tariffs make it unprofitable for American manufacturers to move overseas, and replace American workers with foreign slave labor, and drive down American wages by reducing the "demand" for American labor.
