Barack Obama’s campaign staff is scrambling to explain a family story Obama told on the campaign trail that rivals say is untrue and warrants explanation. At a Memorial Day campaign stop Obama told a story about his WWII veteran uncle who allegedly liberated Auschwitz. Upon returning to the United States, according to Obama family lore, the uncle spent months alone in his attic. “Now obviously, something had really affected him deeply, The trouble is, the Red Army liberated Auschwitz and Obama’s mother is an only child. (His father left him at a young age, so it was unlikely the uncle in question was related to his father.) www.townhall.com/columnists/AmandaCarpenter/2008/05/27/obamas_wwii_uncle_flap“The campaign said Obama’s great uncle on his mother’s side, Charlie Payne, was a member of the 89th Infantry Division that liberated Buchenwald in 1945.” Did this great uncle repair to the attic, or was that part of the story bogus too? --------------------------- And, the Barack Obama Campaign actually posted video of this latest Obama gaffe on YouTube. This time Barack Obama is seeing America's fallen heroes in his audience in New Mexico: Obama sees dead people Obama lies saying uncle liberated Auschwitz/sees dead people

"It was Soviet troops that liberated Auschwitz, so unless his uncle was serving in the Red Army, there's no way Obama's statement yesterday can be true,"

Here we go again, more half truths and false info from the anti Obam Cmp
His great uncle liberated Buchenwald, a fact corroberated by both of Obama's living uncles.
An easy and common mistake to make confusing Auschwitz and Buchenwald.
Get your facts straight and tell the whole story for a change jeffolie

"a fact corroberated by both of Obama's living uncles" - not:
"Obama’s mother is an only child. (His father left him at a young age, so it was unlikely the uncle in question was related to his father.)"
So, who was this phantom uncle who spent six months in the attic?

Duhh, Jeffolie, a great uncle is still an uncle... Most of my great nephews and neices call me Uncle.
That means Obama is two generations removed from WWII. McCain started WWII.

Barry was just pandering like he normally does. The problem was he wasn't speaking to his normal brain dead audience of latte drinking white college students and Mercedes driving yuppies.
And no you don't confuse Auschwitz and Buchenwald if you are at least half way cognizant of WWII.
BTW there is nothing about Mr.Payne spending 6 months in the attic. Looks like "The One" pulled that one out of his ass, much like his 57 states comment or numerous other Bush like flubs.
Or maybe Barry was testing us to see if we are truly worthy of his exalted presence. Remember we are in the presence of a man who can lower the seas, end wars all over the world, end racism, heal our souls. Or at least that what his speech writers claim he'll do if elected.
