Now Playing: Rex Nutting: Consumers like zombies in Dawn of the Dead Americans hit the shopping malls last month. Consumer spending jumped six-tenths of a percent, the fastest growth in more than two years. MarketWatch Washington bureau chief Rex Nutting tells John Wordock the consumer spending story is like the movie Dawn of the Dead. Consumers may be dead, hurt by the housing slump and the credit crunch, but they keep going to the mall. audio link: www.marketwatch.com/tvradio/player.asp?guid={B6636499-6F3F-4501-89DB-DE62965815C6}

Yep, I was thinking the same thing. Not to mention, how much of that is attributable to inflation. Also, early Christmas shopping. I know I started shopping early this year for the first time ever, because I know I won't be able to do it all later, have to spread it out more. I anticipate even higher prices as Christmas approaches, trying to avoid that. Another thing, it said personal income only rose 1/2 as much as spending rose, so again we are going deeper in the hole. This is not good.
