As recommended on another Forum, I started with the wife's rarely used computer last month, and dumped IE for Firefox. www.mozilla.com/en-US/It was a beta, not final, version. It works good, but its cookie handling is cumbersome compared to IE. I need to update that one, maybe. Anybody know if they improved cookie handling? If you don't know about cookies, hit the Tools tab at the top of this screen, then Options, then Privacy, then Advanced. I never allow third party cookies, and only allow first party cookies if it has an advantage to me, such as being remembered on this Forum. GB

I love the fox,I think it's very safe even though I still firewall myself and use antivirals and malware killers. Overkill maybe, but nothing is getting into this computer if I can help it. There are some dark and dangerous alleys out there and I'm carrying a gun and a knife.
I have an old machine that needs a hard drive, someday when I'm really bored I'm going to swap drives and put linux on to see if I like it, I'm hearing good things about it. I may use the old computer as a sacrificial lamb, load up linux and go into the darkest alley I can find just to see what happens.

From another Forum: "They say if you play a Microsoft CD backwards you hear satanic messages. Thats nothing, because if you play it forwards it installs Windows.... "

i have openoffice installed but i'll admit that i don't use it much- so i can't vouch for it.
maybe it's just to feel extra geeky- but when i want to write something out these days- i just use notepad.
I'm digging thunderbird as an alternative to outlook though. For those of you that love firefox- thunderbird should be a no-brainer as it's part of the mozilla operation.
as for browsers- i love chrome at the moment- but anytime i find a website that doesn't seem to be working right- i end up looking at it in firefox.
