I'm posting a link here to a discussion on the Senate's treasonous proposal to drastically increase the number of H1B visas allowed, because poor Corporate America can't find enough skilled workers to work at the low wages they want to offer. The link is to DailyKos at H1B Visa Increase.

This is complete bullshit. The Senate is just trying to wrap the scabs up in a different name.
I have a question: If, as many in DC like to explain, our economy is sooooo dependent on mexicans, why don't they know it? Why don't they say, hey, you NEED me and unless you pay me $5.35/hour on you farm (more for skilled labor), none of us are moving? Their unions are the only ones who fight for scabs (those who accept less than other workers), bad hours, and labor competition. What does a Corporation need to do when the union already practically lowers wages?
If, after visas, laborers did that, I would not have a problem. It should also make the worker and Corporation punishable if they lower wages.
Perhaps then, guest workers may not be so much about freedom as about the increasing bill not to mow the lawn.
I doubt it, and I'm rambling now.

Joby,
I agree with your general sentiment. H1B visa workers and illegal immigrants have exactly the same effect as scabs do on unions. They're willing to work for less than the going wage, which suppresses everyone's wages. In this case, They're actually importing the "scabs" from outside the country. It appears Corporate America can't even suppress the wages of non-unionized American workers enough to be satisfied, so they have import scabs to do it. This is all with the assistance of our elected officials, who behave as if they were elected by Corporate America instead of working America.
