"Google had said it considered the trial a threat to Internet freedom because it's impossible for providers to monitor the thousands of hours of footage uploaded to the web every day"
Awwww. Call the waaaahbulance.
It's also impossible for viewers to keep Google's and other providers internet garbage from being downloaded into their computers as well. And yet, law enforcement will still prosecute you if anything "illegal" ends up on your computer, regardless of whether you voluntarily downloaded it or not. It's nice to see Google getting a taste of its own medicine.
Back 10 years ago when I had AOL, I used to routinely have the control of my computer literally stolen by online entities trying to download porn-- usually labeled as "teen sex." The only way I could stop it was to unplug the computer from the wall outlet. (Which I was doing so frequently, that I finally put an on/off switch between the wall outlet and the extension cord.)
Again, I'm tickled to death to see an online internet service get a dose of its own medicine--being held accountable for something they have no control over. Maybe they'd get a little more sympathy if they weren't so malignantly avaricious about forcefully downloading their own crap into viewers' computers.
I'd love to see Italy successfully extradite Peter Fleischer, and make him do some time in an Italian prison.
