A poster at Democratic Underground has again sent me another excellent link, this time to a Social Security simulator. The program allows the reader to change "fix" the future shortfall by making selected changes. Among the changes, are such things as removing the cap, raising the cap, raising the retirement age, and raising the Social Security tax. According to the program, 93% of the future Social Security shortfall could be eliminated by removing the cap. 11% could be eliminated by including state and local government employees. (The 2 together would completely eliminate the shortfall.) Raising the tax rate from 6.2% to 6.7% would eliminate 53% of the deficit. Clearly the biggest dent would be made in the shortfall by eliminating the cap. Here's the link to the program: www.actuary.org/socialsecurity/game.html

That poster at Democratic Underground must be quite clever. Yes, indeed. He's very Clever. ;D Welcome aboard, Lasher. Glad to have you here and, again, I want to thank you for providing me with both the Federal Budget Simulator and the Social Security Simulator. Both have been outstanding contributions.

Thank you lc and unlawfl. Looks like a pretty good forum you folks got here. I don't think it would do any good to send those links to the WH. If we furnished them with textbooks they would just eat them. I know I'm not always going to agree with everyone here, but it looks like folks here know how to have polite disagreements without launching personal attacks. I try to hold myself to this standard, but there have been times when I have stumbled in that respect. I'm a strong believer in the good that can be achieved in fair debate.

I don't think it would do any good to send those links to the WH. If we furnished them with textbooks they would just eat them. That reminds me of a trip I took to the zoo. I had 2 programs for the zoo. When I passed a baboon in a cage, I gave him one of those programs. He carefully looked at it, as if to read it, and then he ate it. Then he pounded his chest and pointed toward the other program I was carrying. I gave him that program, and he ate it as well. So I can envision the current simian-like occupant of the White House eating pages from a book. Except he wouldn't read them first.
