I had been driving all night long from Denver to Farmington NM, over Wolf Creek Pass like usual, so serious; it was 4 AM and I had just entered Farmington and I heard this strange version of Signs (Five Man Electric Band) when the song abruptly ended. I was laughing so hard I had to pull over to the curb and get out.
Another good driving song:

It's all a kabooki dance. Neither side will allow a default since it will collapse our vast military empire. The fact is the GOP had no qualms under Busch to routinely raise the debt ceiling. The goal of both Obama and the GOP is to find a way to gut medicare and SS, without getting lynched by the public. The GOP had no qualms under Bush to routinely raise the debt ceiling. No good guys in this story.

For once it appears the Republicans got something right. Sort of.
In this case, it's Obama's refusal to settle for a short-term extension of the Debt Ceiling. While the Great One has been regurgitating his "lets-not-kick-the-can-down-the-road" claptrap, his real motivation is becoming more apparent. He doesn't want to still be having this debate when it gets close to election time. He'd rather cut Medicare and Social Security now rather than later, in the hopes that his base will have forgotten by election time. Or one could claim that Republicans want a short term solution so when election time rolls on by Medicare and social Security would have to be cut. I don't think there are any more good guys.

It's funny, all the loud mouths who who are against government spending never want to touch the DoD and Intel budgets. They don't want to end the multitude of worthless DoD weapon contracts that cost us trillions over their life. They don't want to end our illegal occupation of Iraq and the war in Afghanistan. Combined costing us $12 billion a month. They couldn't care less that both wars have cost us, very conservatively over a trillion dollars. The $4 trillion is probably accurate but the Pentagon and Fed kept a lot of the costs of these wars off books so there is no way of telling. Over a trillion, or even 4 trillion (which requires off the book conspiracy theories), is nowhere near 70% of 14 trillion dollar debt. 70% of 14 is 9.8 trillion.

The Man+Woman spend $100,000 a year, and they are in $20,000 debt. The Man spends $10,000 on a new Z The Woman spends $10,000 on shoes You can't say 100% or even 70% of the debt is from the Z. It's more like 50:50 here. In a way Americans are in a marriage like this, and you can't be a bitchy nag about the whole thing. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2010_United_States_federal_budget Military budget is not 70% of federal expenditures.

The total military/security budget is in the vicinity of $1.1-$1.2 trillion, or 70% -75% of the federal budget deficit. That's like the guy saying, "Spending money on all those shoes is responsible for these credit cards Woman!" And the girl saying, "Spending money on that new Z is responsible for these credit cards!" I don't play that game anymore.

Exactly. When I was a Republican I always stood for less welfare and more work. But I jumped the ship when they started talking about shipping the work overseas. WTF. You can't take away the safety net AND take away the jobs! Strong manufacturing and tech hiring patterns alleviate the need for welfare. Let's hope that the ugly truth about the "reducing Medicare" debacle has the same staying power as the lies propagated about Obamacare. You can't keep the safety net and take away the jobs. www.usdebtclock.org/Looking at the debt clock, it's obvious we're going to have to default.

Looks like the same fearmongering the DoD promoted about the Russkies during the '70's and '80's. Good excuse to ramp up the acquisition of more useless gold plated weapon systems. It's a good excuse to cut China off from it's primary customer base (Americans) so they can't industrialize.

The left tries to prop up all non-white ethnicity's on the backs of whites, Free Trade could be considered one mechanism to achieve that; nobody said the left was trying to prop up the non-white ethnic American nationals. I'm not seeing what you're getting at here, so I'll just stick to the facts given the established voting demographics. Given the well-established voting patterns of the violent blacks and Hispanics, if these groups left America or were exterminated tomorrow, the Republicans would have no opposition, the Democrats would become irrelevant. Social Security gets privatized, Medicare goes to vouchers, unions go away. Those are the facts. The blacks and Hispanic voters stand in the way of total Republican dominance. Really, why can't we all just find common ground and get the groups working together against the moneyed elite? I mean the left seems to be more concerned about the welfare of non-white foreign nationals than non-white America nationals. How many blacks lost their jobs to globalism?

Good let them build their military, that way they'll create a giant parasite that will suck them dry and encourage them to blow their treasury on bullshit military expeditions like we do. It worked with the Ruskies. We conned them into building a massive military that choked the buggers to death. What we should do is crash a F-22 into China and let the commies reverse engineer it and bankrupt themselves trying to build it. Maybe give them a stealth warship and convince them the M-4 is the rifle of the future. I hope you're joking. China has the potential to be a bigger strategic threat than Nazi Germany + Italy + Japan + Romania + Hungary + Spain + Finland (Oh no, not Finwand), Bulgaria, etc.

Teddy and Ike didn't vote for funding abortion and gay marriage, discrimination against whites, taking away guns, TARP, voting yes on every spending program you can imagine except military (that part about military sounds distinctly anti IKE/TEDDY).
You're joking right? I love abortion and gay marriage issues. Most GOPers can't see these as the hot button wedge issues they are. GOPers go stupid and mean when they are brought up and forget about the fact that GOP is economically dismantling the country and wiping out the white middle-class. Uh, and they're wiping out the middle class of other races, too. The left tries to prop up all non-white ethnicity's on the backs of whites, Free Trade could be considered one mechanism to achieve that; nobody said the left was trying to prop up the non-white ethnic American nationals.

It tells me these marines would not hesitate to shoot Americans if the order came down. Their allegiance is to the President and Marine corp commandant respectively. And historically Marines have had zero compunction plugging and clubbing Americans. I wonder how many foreign nationals make up the marines and army now.

A modern refrigerator uses about half the energy of an old one, yet keeps food just as well. In hot wx, the lower energy waste of the new frig saves big on air conditioning load. That's conservation without living poor. I've been carrying a laptop as my primary computer since 1987. The amount of energy this one uses is like one CFL bulb. GB A refrigerator barely consumes any power, and if you're using a laptop from 1987 then you're living poor. Not everyone is as rich as you and can afford to spend half a million dollars on solar panels, expensive efficient refrigerators AC lighting appliances heating computers TV's and radios etc.

"Conservation isn't a source of energy, it's called living poor." Your profligate thinking is a big part of the reason the US consumes 40% of the world's energy while getting poorer for it every day. GB Turn your computer off, energy waster.
