I don't make them! It's too big of a leap, too long of a time frame for my purposes. I have a short span of attention, so it's better for me to take baby steps toward my goals. Annual does not work for me. Monthly or even weekly might be possible.

I see the idea... but why are people scared shitless of just saying..... "God"? They'll say "higher power" or whatever, but they won't touch God with a ten foot pole. Might make things a whole lot easier and simpler if they did. After all, if your higher power is just another human confidant, they might be as messed up as you are, LOL

I *never* really thought it was a bad choice.... and I think the boomer generation was better off in many ways because we had more personal attention and nurturing from our mothers. Getting and having money wasn't as much of a focal point in our lives as it seems to be today. I think we were so much more creative than later generations. Just IMO.
When I retire? my only goal is to be a full time housekeeper. I never hated housework.... working just frustrated me because it kept me running from pillar to post constantly. I think my health even suffered because I couldn't get enough rest, or even care for my own health, as I would have liked to do.

Renting = guaranteed poverty
But for big cities and highly populated areas, they really don't have much choice. That's why I'm glad I live in the boonies. It sucks in every other way (no jobs) but it's a hell of a lot more possible to survive.
Glad I bought a cheap house in the 70's and paid it off ASAP. Totally liberated me. Thank you Lord!

“We don’t have an obligation to solve America’s problems.”
Well then, get the fcuk out of America.
Go do business in the countries that you are so frickin' fond of. Operate under THEIR laws, and under THEIR rules, and THEIR protection. And see how you like it.
While you're at it, stay there.

I wouldn't have thought that bread would be that much of a problem. Most bread recipes only have a teaspoon of salt in a whole loaf. Maybe commercial breads are worse, but I don't taste that much salt in them
Drink more water!

EVERY drug has side effects. Some drugs are successful at their stated goal. Walking and decent diet are better than killer statins. See, I would tend to agree with you. Although I can't speak for everybody... since everyone has their very own set of health issues. Walking and proper diet .... I thought DID help me considerably. Another big help, simplistic as it sounds, is drinking enough water.

Best thing might be to go to a used appliance store... and see if you can find an older model that's still working pretty well.
Yes, Maytag is totally fubared. I bought a new refridgerator from them, and it fell apart exactly five years from date of purchase. Not once, but three times, I lost all my food. They finally did a "permanent" fix on it, but by then, I was cooked. I sold my $1100 refridgerator for $100 and my sister gave me her old one.
It's still running like a top, knock on wood.
If it dies.... I will either buy the cheapest model I can find.... or try to get a used one. It's insane to spend buckets of money on something that won't last longer than a June frost.

Aspirin tears my stomach up. Even small doses, and even with food. Ditto for Aleve.
No darling, it's for real, I assure you. Some folks just have very sensitive stomachs. I even have to watch how much soda pop I drink. My dad was also this way, so it could be hereditary, I don't know.

Only one thing works for me 100%?...... a man. ;D Yes, you'll lose the weight, if you're REALLY motivated. I do think most people don't know enough about the basics of nutrition, and they make a lot of mistakes in their eating, not really understanding what they're doing to themselves. Knowledge is power. Simplest and easiest way to lose weight? Just walk. It will suppress your appetite while it helps you burn your food. Soooo easy. No screaming and sweating and crying like you see on "The Biggest Loser". It's amazingly easy. Read some of Susan Powter's books. I think she's the only one who really gets it right.

Hope I don't appear too cynical, but sometimes, you can't have your cake and eat it too.
My mom stayed in her house until the bitter end. While I'm in sympathy with her feelings, I think it makes it tremendously harder on everyone else around them. For myself, I think I'd like to move to a more logical place BEFORE I get to be a huge problem for everyone. And once again, I loved her more than anyone, and I was willing to do anything she wanted, but it put tremendous burdens on me.
For one thing, when she was alive, she wouldn't let me help her with housework ("I don't want to work my girls"). She got beyond taking care of any kind of maintenance, and so the house got damaged when maybe it wouldn't have been. I had a TREMENDOUS cleanup task when she passed away because of this. I've damn near killed myself, seriously.
If she could have seen fit, I think she could have been contented in a much smaller place.

Never understood why anyone would want to do this. Wouldn't it be simpler just to sell the house, and use the proceeds to either get a smaller house or rent?
Just goes to show ya.... avoid the middle man if you don't want to be screwed.

Well, I deserved an education, but never got it, unlike most spoiled ass baby boomers who got all their heart's desires. So that puts me in a very different place.
But I DID... get an inheritance, unlike 3 out of 5 of my siblings, who were disinherited.
All's well that ends well.

When I read BS like this, I can't help but think that it's just propaganda telling us how we're "supposed" to think.
Proverbs 13:22 says: "A good man leaves an inheritance for his children's children..."
and I think it is a good thing to give consideration to your children and your grandchildren.
I do "somewhat" understand, when parents have already paid out the nose for your education (mind didn't).
I think most of us do have all the things we need, and the idea that we would just blow it all to the moon in one last hurrah of greed, is kind of a sickening idea to me.

From what I've seen, it's as waltc describes: only a "select" few actually do get the cushy retirement jobs, and these folks are "in the in crowd". Those of us who are not as well connected? Eh, I sincerely don't think we can expect the same kind of treatment. I think you're gonna be on your own with your problems.
Other than that situation, I've only seen those unfortunates who are so dirt poor that they're hanging on by their toenails just to survive.
The propaganda that most of us will just work on into the sunset is a popular myth, something made up to pacify us for getting screwed out of our well paid jobs, and losing large chunks of our 401k's.
Americans DO lie. And brag. Don't believe everything you hear.

;D Palin the favorite? Oh good. Then the Democrats should be a shoe-in.
Unless... they're just putting this misinformation out there early, so's she can "suddenly" lose popularity and slide off the charts, therefore allowing another more fit candidate to take the lead.

Houses aren't selling very well around here either (eastern KY), and that has me worried, because I would like to put mine up for sale pretty soon. The lady across the street had hers up for sale for months, without one bite.
I'd like to just SELL mine outright, I don't want to be a landlady.

Maybe they shouldn't even pay them for the first baby? All you're doing is giving them a taste of free money, and getting them started on their careers as freeloaders. If they thought they would have to be responsible for al their decisions from the get-go, they might pause a little before taking the big leap.
When it's your a$$, you think a little harder.
And you know I'm not descriminating, because I used to walk in their shoes. There is a certain degree of "pre-thinking" that you follow through with. I remember thinking, "Oh well, I'll just get an abortion", which is exactly what I did, when the problem hit me directly in the face. Worst decision of my life - absolutely! .... but the "pre-thinking" set me up for it.
